Can I use the ANTI-AGE Regimen before and after a light peel from my aethetician?

Check with your physician or aesthetician for the recommended pre- and post-peel program. Chemical peels are available in different percentages and are either controlled by layering the applications or by the length of application time. It is prudent to check with the aesthetician or doctor regarding the use of ANTI-AGE products prior to the procedure and again following the treatment. Again, each peel formulation and treatment is different and everyone reacts in his or her own way. The ingredient list may be downloaded from the Rodan + Fields’ website.

What does the Microsponge Technology do in the Night Renewing Serum?

This delivery system converts liquids into powders almost instantly to both reduce potential irritancy and provide long-lasting benefits. Clinical studies concluded that the retinol and peptides continued to be delivered for up to 12 hours.

I’m 74 years old; can a wrinkle cream help me at this age or is it too late?

No matter how old you are, it’s never too soon (or too late) to start ensuring a healthy, youthful-looking future for your skin. To address these needs, Rodan + Fields offers ANTI–AGE Regimen which takes proven pharmaceutical science and applies it to the prevention and correction of the visible signs of skin aging. By strategically incorporating anti-aging peptides, this daily system works on multiple skin levels to address the key causes of skin aging: decreased cell turnover, diminished collagen production, dryness, and the cumulative effects of environmental damage.

Habits that Haunt: Ignoring Allergies

Ignoring Allergies

Allergy season is upon us with ragweed in full bloom. And while you might be able to suffer through the itchy eyes and runny nose that come with hay fever, wrinkles are an often-ignored side effect. The constant rubbing of your eyes and nose accelerate the formation of wrinkles around your eyes and nose. In fact, we can almost always spot an allergy sufferer because of the faint white line across the bridge of her or his nose caused by the chronic mechanical motion of rubbing. It is known as the “allergic salute.”  So, if you have a known allergy, be proactive and treat your allergy with antihistamines or try a Netie pot to flush out your sinuses.  Your skin  (and your nose) will thank you for it.

CONFESSIONS OF A DERMATOLOGIST

By Dr. Kathy Fields

As an ambitious woman in my mid 50s, I am on hormone replacement therapy (HRT). It helps keep my skin juicy by preserving my natural collagen, maintains the quality of my skin and nails and keeps my hair in check, not to mention the fact that it will help keep my brain sharp for years to come.

Now, there are varying opinions on HRT, but the visible skin benefits of hormone support are real. Below are  photos of identical twins … one who takes HRT and one who does not. Notice the difference in their upper eyelids, jowls and neck. The results speak for themselves; hormonal support certainly has gone a long way for the twin on HRT.

HRT is not for everyone.  Get the facts at www.menopause.org or from a recent interview I did on View from the Bay. Then, ask your ob-gyn if HRT is right for you. Skin is a beautiful thing … and HRT can help you wear it well for many, many years to come.

Check out this revolutionary new product!!

Beauty Industry Eager for Rodan + Fields New Product Launch

For weeks the beauty and skin care industry has been buzzing behind the scenes about the revolutionary new product and technology from Rodan + Fields. After making it through an independent clinical review with glowing results, the top beauty editors around the world were invited to come preview the new product but were asked not to report on it until October 1 when the new tool would be available exclusively through Rodan + Fields representatives. However, one beauty editor was not able to contain her enthusiasm and revealed the secret early.

Marie Claire Magazine Scoops New Rodan + Fields Technology

While Marie Claire Magazine will wait until their next issue to run a full article about Rodan + Fields new product, the October issue, which hit stores on September 13, featured a brief quote under "This Month's Best Beauty Buys."

This Month's Best Beauty Buys - Skin Roller from Rodan + Fields

Special Delivery: "I'm obsessed with this skin roller from Rodan + Fields, $200 (with Anti-Age AMP MD kit): Its superfine acupuncture needles gently prick skin so that topical treatments absorb instantaneously."

Along with the quote, the magazine ran a graphic of a blue roller tool (which bears a slight resemblance to a paint roller) with tiny "acupuncture" needles running down the sides.

Will the New Rodan + Fields Technology Work?

Yes! As reported in What is fractal laser surgery? How does fractal skin resurfacing therapy work? The cutting edge of cosmetic dermatology in Nashville has been moving away from peels and surgery into a more targeted approach--mildly damaging specific areas of the skin to resurface it through fractal laser surgery. Minute damage of the skin causes the body's natural healing response to take over, increasing collagen and diminishing wrinkles.

The revolutionary Rodan + Fields roller device will target the skin's surface with tiny needles. The resulting mild prickling sensation and minute damage will prompt the body to rebuild collagen all over the face which will lead to fewer lines and wrinkles as well as smoother, more youthful looking skin without the laser, surgery or expensive trip to a dermatologist. Not only that, but the skin will be more receptive to the Anti-Age medication therapy which will be applied at the same time.

Rodan + Fields - Revolutionizing the Face of Beauty

There is no doubt this simple looking, easy-to-use new technology from Rodan + Fields will work and revolutionize the face of the beauty industry when it becomes available only from Rodan + Fields consultants in October.

Anti-aging for the aged

It used to be that 20-somethings thought they were invincible. They would bake in the sun without a care in the world. Today that tide has shifted and women … and men … of all ages are concerned about aging skin. In fact, a recent survey found that 84% of women in their 20s are concerned about aging. This is great news because the sooner you begin prevention, the less you will need to worry about correction. Like we always say, the best wrinkle is the one you never get!

Collagen-stimulating peptides

Collagen-stimulating peptides (like Palmitoyl Hexapeptide-14, Acetyl Hexapeptide-3, Myristoyl Tetrapeptide-8, Myristoyl Pentapeptide-8, and Palmitoyl Oligopeptide) are small chains of amino acids that signal the skin to make more collagen. The end result is firmer, smoother, less- lined skin.

Habits that Haunt: Letting Mother Nature Call the Shots

Habits that Haunt

Derm RF | September 10, 2010 at 4:37 pm | Categories: Habits that Haunt | URL: http://wp.me/pMnJi-cD

Letting Mother Nature Call the Shots

Mother Nature’s primary objective is procreation. Therefore, men are biologically hardwired to notice women when we are at the peak of fertility, when our skin is flawless, our cheeks soft and round, our eyebrows arched. As we age we become less fertile and Mother Nature decides we no longer need to be attractive. The natural reduction of feminizing hormones causes our faces to become more angular, our eyebrows to flatten, our facial hair to grow and our lips to thin. Don’t let Mother Nature cast you aside. Fight back by being proactively involved in your health and well-being. Talk with your doctor about hormone replacement therapy and other alternatives for staving off the visible effects of decreasing hormones. With advances in science you can look desirable well into your 80s and 90s.

By Dr. Katie Rodan

Patient Name: Rachel*

Gender: Female

Age: 46 years old

Concern: lines and wrinkles, especially around the eye area and mouth

Doctor’s Notes:

Rachel came into my office with  lines and wrinkles around her eyes and mouth. She claimed they never bothered her in her 30s and early 40s, but recently they had started to deepen and become more noticeable. To reduce  wrinkling,, she elected to receive regular injections of Botox and Restylane. Over $1,500 of cosmetic procedures later (none of which were covered by her insurance), she was  happy with her results but a little frustrated at the thought of ongoing treatments to maintain her new “look.”

The old adage “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” was never truer than in Rachel’s case. Had she started on a proactive anti-aging routine in her 20s or even her 30s she, and her wallet, would have been much happier in her late 40s.

Learn from Rachel’s experience and start your anti-aging routine while you still love your skin. Incorporate healthy habits, like wearing sunscreen, not drinking from a straw, sleeping on your back and wearing sunglasses, in conjunction with starting an anti-aging skincare routine with peptide technology, to prevent wrinkles. Because at the end of the day, the best wrinkle is the one you never get.

Lines and Wrinkles

The pressure to stave off “Father Time” grows ever greater as pop culture proclaims 30 as the new 20  and 50 the new 30. When 30 was, well, 30, you might have expected to start noticing certain visible signs of aging such as a deepening of the “smile” lines trailing between your nose and mouth and the worry creases, those parallel grooves between the eyebrows. By your 40s, wrinkles become more established: The “crow’s-feet” around your eyes and the horizontal forehead lines get deeper, while the corners of your mouth start turning down, forming marionette lines that leave you looking either sad or angry. Then, in your 50s and 60s crepiness sets in, etching crisscrossing fine lines throughout your once smooth cheeks. All the wrinkles you may have tolerated in your 30s and 40s become more deeply etched with each passing birthday.

Although aging is inevitable, much of what we consider undesirable is more within our control

than people realize. When it comes to the aging face, preventing wrinkles is far easier, less

painful and a lot cheaper than correction.

Today’s options for treating wrinkles are numerous and growing, from topical creams and lotions

to dermatologic procedures such as laser skin resurfacing, Botox, fillers and finally, plastic surgery. Tune in to Derm RF this month for dermatologists’ advice on key anti-aging ingredients for your skincare, a look at the effects of hormone replacement therapy as an anti-aging solution, and topical treatments to address wrinkles so you can feel great about your appearance at every age. As always, we appreciate feedback … let us know which articles you like best and what topics you want to read more about.

Sincerely,

Your Derm RF Team

Don't Stress Out ... Your Skin Will Thank You!

Habits that Haunt

Derm RF | September 1, 2010 at 4:38 pm | Categories: Habits that Haunt | URL: http://wp.me/pMnJi-ck

Stressing out

When it comes to stressing you out, there is nothing worse than a big zit on your chin before an important presentation or event. And because a face full of breakouts worsens your stress, a vicious cycle ensues. In response to stress, our bodies produce excess cortisol, a hormone that is designed to help the body respond with the classic “flight or fight reaction” to a threatening event. Too much cortisol leads to a myriad of health problems, including acne. So, while we know it is difficult in the moment, our advice is to take a series of deep breaths, relax and don’t forget to exercise for endorphin release. In the big scheme of things, the zit on your chin is not life threatening and if you can keep it in perspective you will have fewer blemishes to worry about.
