Well, yes and no. There are some in-office exfoliation procedures like chemical peels, micro-dermabrasion and lasers that yield excellent results but may require several days recovery time. At-home exfoliation products and procedures are less aggressive and, if done properly, should not result in any “down-time.” If your attempts to “do-it yourself” cause redness, peeling, itching and scaling, SLOW DOWN. You may be overdoing it and breaking your skin’s protective barrier. Give your skin a rest and help it heal with a soothing moisturizer containing anti-inflammatory peptides or botanical ingredients. Also, don’t forget to apply a broad spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen daily to protect your recovering skin.
