Avobenzone

Like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, avobenzone is one of only three ingredients approved by the FDA that protect against aging UVA rays. Unlike zinc and titanium dioxide, however, avobenzone is a chemical, not physical, blocker that absorbs UV light and converts it into heat energy. When shopping for sunscreens, check the product’s label and make sure one of these UVA sunscreens is listed in the “active ingredients” section of the Drug Facts box. Without one of them, you will protect your skin from a sunburn but not from aging and melanoma. Find avobenzone (also called butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane) in Rodan + Fields® ANTI-AGE Skin Protectant Cream SPF 15 Sunscreen and ESSENTIALS UVA/UVB SPF 30 Sunscreen.
