Waiting until you arrive at the pool/beach/soccer game to apply your sunscreen

Under application of sunscreen tends to be the rule, not the exception. Therefore, we urge patients to layer their sunscreen. Apply your sunscreen thirty minutes before exposing yourself to the sun. Let it dry for at least fifteen minutes and then reapply another coat when you arrive at the pool, beach, soccer game or other outdoor activity. That way, you’ll have a fighting chance of achieving the full SPF rating and maximizing the potential UVA protection of your product.

Shopping by SPF number

To reap the full benefits of your sunscreen, you should be using one teaspoon to cover your face. If you are only using a thin layer, an SPF 50 isn’t really a 50. The greater the SPF, the more likely a sunscreen will be heavy, greasy and whitening on the skin, making compliance a problem. We recommend using a cosmetically elegant SPF 15 or 30 every day and reapplying it every few hours. Remember, when sunscreen is applied correctly:

SPF 15 blocks 93% of UVB rays

SPF 30 blocks 97% of UVB rays

SPF 50 blocks 99% of UVB rays
