Vitamin D
Vitamin D is a hot topic these days. Created when the body absorbs the sun’s UV rays, vitamin D is essential for bone health and overall wellness. While it may sound like a good excuse not to wear your sunscreen every day, getting your vitamin D from the sun needlessly increases your risk of skin cancer and causes lines, wrinkles and age spots. Topical vitamin D, while available, is typically used to treat psoriasis. To ensure you get enough vitamin D, eat a diet rich in salmon, egg yolks and mushrooms, drink vitamin D fortified milk (organic is best to avoid hormones) and orange juice, and take a supplement to make sure you keep levels in the healthy range.
