Every Day Is Sun-Day

One fallacy about sun exposure is that what you see is what you get. Unfortunately, sun protection is not that easy, and it’s the stealth damage, in addition to the visible burns and tans, that leads to greater photoaging and cancer in the long run.

While most people know that skipping sunscreen when lounging at the pool is a bad idea, few realize that incidental sun exposure can actually be more damaging. Whether sitting in a sunny office, commuting on the freeway, or walking the dog, if we neglect to protect ourselves from daily sun damage, our skin will pay the price. And since 80% of the sun’s rays penetrate clouds, you aren’t safe on gloomy days either.

The best way to fight back against invisible and incidental sun exposure is to incorporate sun protection into your regular routine. Here are the top things you should be doing daily to protect your skin ‘round the clock:

1.      Look for double duty products. Who says your anti-aging skincare can’t address lines and wrinkles while also providing sun protection? Rodan + Fields® ANTI-AGE Triple Defense Treatment SPF 30 is a clinically proven treatment to address wrinkles, pores and loss of firmness that also offers broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection. It’s a double duty product that helps you address those crow’s feet you hate while also preventing future wrinkles from forming.

2.      Load and Lock. Unfortunately, your morning sunscreen application won’t last you all day, no matter how high the SPF. Reapply sun protection throughout the day with Rodan + Fields ENHANCEMENTS Mineral Peptides SPF 20. Simply load your Mineral Peptides Brush with the Mineral Peptides SPF 20 every morning, close and lock the brush and toss in your purse for an easy, mess-free way to reapply protection later in the day.

3.      Stay Aware: Just 20 minutes of incidental sun exposure a day adds up. Do the math and you’ll see that this is equivalent to two straight weeks (that’s 14 eight-hour days) of potentially unprotected exposure over the course of a year. See proof of this by sporting a new Rodan + Fields UV Sensitive Silicone Wristband. These handy clear wristbands, available exclusively to Rodan + Fields Preferred Customers and Consultants for a limited time only, turn purple every time you are exposed to the sun so you can see just how often you’re exposed.

If you haven’t done these in the past, start now. While dermatologists once believed that 80% of a person’s lifetime sun damage occurred by age 18, we now know that only 20% of lifetime sun damage occurs by age 23, with 10% accumulating per decade thereafter. And while you’re incorporating sun protection into your daily routine, tune in to Derm RF for additional tips, insights from the Doctors and a chance to win our Spring Break special.

Sincerely,
